***Russian Russian Museum was founded in 1895 by Emperor Nicholas II and became the country's first state museum of Russian art. Today, his collections number more than 400,000 exhibits, covering all the main stages and types of Russian art – from the most ancient icons to the works of modern artists. The museum complex includes several palaces: in addition to the Mikhailovsky Palace, it is also the Marble Palace, the Stroganov Palace and the Mikhailovsky (Engineering) Castle, each of which presents its own part of the exposition or temporary exhibitions.
